Series of regional events

DORIS_Net  is currently organising and conducting networking events at regional level to promote GMES regional capabilities, to educate potential regional end-users about the added value they can expect from GMES services, and to encourage service providers to communicate information on the benefits of GMES to potential users. In short, these events will aim to

  • raise awareness of GMES in the regions
  • enhance links between stakeholders
  • bridge the gap between users and providers

This is done to provide sustained education, training and access to expertise in  regions, striving to enhance participation of regional stakeholders.

Bremen

The Regional Contact Office, CEON, is organising a series of events starting with a large scale conference on 25.01.2012, aimed at setting the scene for making the regional link to GMES in the region of Bremen and the larger Metropolregion (2.7 mill inhabitants) and to identify topics of interests for the subsequent seminars.

 

Bremen, 25.01.2012: Regional GMES Conference on Offshore Wind Energy and Climate Change. The aim is to initiate the dialogue between European, National and regional level on the basis of the regional central topics of interest offshore wind energy and climate change. The conference aims to offer the opportunity to interested users, providers and decision makers to become informed about the possibilities of uses of satellite technologies (earth observation, satellite communication, navigation), integrated by GMES and to address the question: What can GMES offer GMES for my daily tasks?

Around 75 participants gathered for this event, including representatives from the regional climate change community, regional research institutions, regional authorities, the European Space Agency (ESA), German Ministry of Transport (BMVBS), the German Space Agency (DLR) as well as industry and key players coming from the region´s offshore wind cluster. Lombardia

The Lombardia Regional Contact Office, hosted at CNR IREA, in collaboration with LRA - DG Industry, is organising one main event in January, dedicated to the SMEs with the participation of all regional space stakeholders (decision makers, researchers, users, providers, regional cluster).

The aim of this initiative is:

  • to inform about the possibilities offered by GMES to develop new services and new market
  • to involve regional SMEs as potential providers of GMES downstream services

The agenda of the meeting includes:

  • presentations on GMES, its supporting tools for SMEs, DORIS_Net and its RCOs
  • 2 use cases presented by SMEs and Regional Authorities that are offered as potential ideas to SMEs
  • face-to-face meetings

Date: 30.01.2012 

Location: Palazzo Lombardia, Milano, site of the regional offices.



As a feed-back of the above event, further focussed meetings with more interested SMEs will be proposed.

East Midlands

G-STEP and the University of Leicester planned a series of events for the local end-users and potential users (Business breakfasts, regional and international conferences) for SMEs and local authorities with participation of providers and representatives of the leading UK GMES organisations. 

 

Leicester, 18-19 January 2012 

Traffic Health Environment: Intelligent Solutions Sustaining Urban Environments (THE ISSUE)

THE ISSUE project will look into new methods, including application of space and information technologies, for Intelligent Traffic Systems, Urban Mobility, Intermodal Regional Transport, Safety and Security of Citizens, Economic, Health and Environmental impacts. The event will give an opportunity to learn about new research outcomes and future initiatives in this domain across five regions in Europe: the East Midlands in the UK, the Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine Regions in France, the Molise Region in Italy and the Mazovia Region in Poland. 

 

The Mazovia region will be introduced to the DORIS_Net East Midlands Regional Contact Office.
